Want to keep the exterior of your car looking great?

  1. Wash It: Work in the shade whenever possible and make sure the surface is cool to the touch before washing your car. Use a good quality concentrated car wash soap or wash and wax. Do not use dishwashing detergent because it will strip away any wax or sealant that's already there. To avoid wash scratches, use a clean chenille microfiber wash mitt. Working in sections, start on the roof and work your way from top to bottom, front to back. Rinse frequently so the soap doesn't dry on the surface. Use a two-bucket system, one for soapy water and the other for rinse water. Waterless washing is also a good way to keep the car clean between bucket washes.
  2. Dry It: The best way to dry your car is to use a clean, soft extra-large microfiber drying towel. Cotton and polyester will scratch. Lay the microfiber towel flat and pull it in one direction. Shake and turn it often. The gaps between the fibers will trap the moisture. Some people prefer a synthetic chamois (also called shammy). Use separate towels for windows and do not wash them together.
  3. Protect It: For maintenance between frequent exterior car washing, use a quick spray detailer, spray car wax or spray sealant. Our best suggestions for car care products are P&S Double Black Bead Maker, Malco Cherry Flash and Sonax Spray+Seal.
